The birth of Patriotism?
Captain James Jack, a Charlotte Militia Captain and tavern owner, risked his life to ride to Philadelphia in June of 1775, more than a year before the U.S. Declaration of Independence was drafted, to deliver documents to the Continental Congress that expressed Charlotte's call for liberty from the tyrannical British Empire and its king George iii. This act may have been a prelude to the greatest document in American history in which the second sentence declares,
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
